1973 has finally begun
HUMORINA. For the first time, Odessans learned this word in the 73rd year.
April Fool's Day, laughter, practical jokes and deceptions – as soon as they are not called April 1, but in Odessa this day has rightfully become a nationwide, citywide, like Bastille Day for Paris.

On April 1, 1973, a Carnival filled the streets. It was a bright, noisy procession. Columns of people were complemented by slightly restored vintage cars with witty and just humorous inscriptions on the doors, hoods and roofs.
It was then that the glorious sailor, who soon became a symbol of the holiday, flashed in the crowd, whose neck was decorated with a lifebuoy. And only a few people from all over Odessa knew where this character came from, who instantly captured everyone's attention and sympathy. It still remains Humorina's brand, its emblem.
The symbol turned out to be so successful that this simple and at the same time catchy drawing became very popular on various posters, posters, souvenirs, without mentioning either the author or copyright. And he was a regular participant of the Odessa KVN team Arkady Tsykun, among whose works, in addition to the sailor, there are many more playful, humorous drawings.
Odessa students, the driving force of Humor, have always been famous for their wit. A few years before the birth of the millionth inhabitant of the city, at the first Humorina, students marched with a baby carriage decorated with a banner with something like this text: - Student! And what did you do for the appearance of the millionth inhabitant of Odessa?
The millionth inhabitant who appeared according to the morality of that time, according to the ideology and policy of the "steering" of the entire Soviet society – the Communist Party, of course, could not be a child of students. He became, as usual, the child of a simple worker of a steel rolling plant and, of course, a boy.
But the students did become parents. They gave birth to a "girl" and named her Humorina. Oleg Stashkevich, the constant literary assistant of the notorious Odessan Mikhail Zhvanetsky, was the first to call by this name the brainchild, born in 1972, in room number 5 of the Palace of Students.
A year after the first Humorina, this holiday has become not only Odessa. In 1974, the entire Soviet Union joined in the face of a solid landing of Muscovites, including quite famous ones. Every year the tradition was strengthened, the holiday was overgrown with new eccentricities, the beginning of which was laid by the legendary descent down the Potemkin stairs, first on skis, then on the "Zaporozhets".
It all started with enthusiasm, a sense of humor, the ability to rejoice yourself and please others.
